Subaru Mechanic · Appleton WI & the Fox ValleyExpert Subaru repair from ASE certified techs who actually know boxer engines and Symmetrical AWD. Outback, Forester, Crosstrek, and more, backed by a 2 year, 24,000 mile warranty with digital inspection reports sent to your phone.
Locally owned, ASE certified, since 2016.
Subaru ownership is higher in Wisconsin than almost anywhere in the country, and in the Fox Valley especially, the Outback and Forester are everywhere. The AWD system, ground clearance, and reliability make Subarus perfect for Wisconsin winters. But that same AWD system and Subaru's boxer engine design need a mechanic who actually understands Subaru specific maintenance.
At Stoiched, our ASE certified technicians service all Subaru models regularly. We know the documented issues, head gasket concerns on EJ series engines, CVT maintenance requirements, timing belt schedules on older models, and the specific AWD service that keeps a Subaru performing reliably through every Wisconsin winter.
Every Subaru repair here is backed by our 2 year, 24,000 mile warranty plus NAPA's nationwide coverage as a NAPA Auto Care Center. You get a digital inspection report sent to your phone, so you see exactly what we found before you approve anything.
Subarus are reliable, but they have well documented service needs that Appleton mechanics see regularly. Our ASE certified techs know every one of them.
EJ series engines (Outback, Forester, Impreza, roughly 2000 to 2011) are known for head gasket issues, especially external oil and coolant seepage. We inspect head gaskets at every service and catch problems before they become catastrophic.
Modern Subaru CVTs need fluid changes at specific intervals. Neglecting CVT fluid is one of the most common causes of early transmission failure in newer Subarus. We service them with the correct Subaru spec Lineartronic fluid.
Older Subaru EJ engines use a timing belt that needs replacement on a set schedule. Newer FA and FB engines use a timing chain. Knowing which your Subaru has, and when it's due, is critical. We track it for every Subaru we service.
Subaru's AWD is excellent for Wisconsin winters, but it needs all four tires within about 2/32 inch of the same tread depth, plus regular differential and transfer case service. Mismatched tires can damage the AWD coupling. We check it every visit.
Some FA20 and FB25 engines (roughly 2011 to 2017 Outback, Forester, Impreza, Legacy) have a known oil consumption issue. If your Subaru burns oil between changes, we diagnose the extent and advise on the best course of action.
Subaru wheel bearings, especially on higher mileage AWD models, wear faster than on some other brands. A humming or growling sound that changes with vehicle speed is often a wheel bearing. We diagnose and replace them with quality parts.
Everything your Subaru needs at our Appleton shop, ASE certified techs, digital inspection reports, and a 2yr/24k warranty on every job.

Wisconsin is one of the top states for Subaru ownership in the country, and for good reason. The all wheel drive, ground clearance, and cold weather reliability of the Outback, Forester, and Crosstrek make them ideal for Fox Valley winters. But Subaru's unique engineering, the horizontally opposed boxer engine, the symmetrical AWD system, the CVT on modern models, means your mechanic needs to actually know these vehicles to service them properly. Our ASE certified techs do, which is a big part of why Fox Valley Subaru owners keep coming back.
The Outback is among the most popular vehicles in Wisconsin, a practical, capable wagon SUV that handles everything from the Fox Valley commute to weekend trips up north. Outback service needs vary by generation. Older EJ engine Outbacks need vigilant head gasket monitoring and timing belt service. Newer FB engine Outbacks are more reliable but need proper CVT fluid changes and oil consumption checks. We service all Outback generations with generation specific knowledge.
The Forester is a genuine workhorse, especially popular with outdoor oriented Fox Valley families who need real capability with everyday practicality. Forester service needs mirror the Outback closely, head gasket vigilance on older EJ models, CVT service on newer ones, AWD tire matching, and regular wheel bearing inspection on higher mileage examples. If your Forester is making a humming noise that changes with speed, it's probably a wheel bearing, a common wear item we see regularly.
The Crosstrek is Subaru's most fuel efficient AWD option and has become very popular in the Fox Valley. Its FB20 engines are generally reliable but are among the models with documented oil consumption concerns in the 2011 to 2017 range. We check oil consumption on affected Crosstrek model years at every service. CVT service is also critical here, since the smaller engine puts more load on the CVT than larger displacement Subarus.
The EJ series head gasket issue is one of the most discussed topics in Subaru ownership. Here's what owners should actually know. It primarily affects roughly 1999 to 2011 Outback, Forester, and Impreza models with the EJ25 engine. The most common failure mode is external oil or coolant seepage, not necessarily a blown internal gasket. Early detection matters enormously, since a job caught at the seepage stage is far easier than one caught after the gasket fails completely. We inspect EJ engine Subarus closely at every oil change for early signs of seepage.
Subaru's Symmetrical AWD is one of its best features, but it has one critical requirement many owners don't know about. All four tires must be within about 2/32 inch of the same tread depth. If you replace only one or two tires on a Subaru, the difference in rolling circumference can cause the AWD coupling to overheat and fail. When Subaru owners come to us for tire work, we always measure all four tires and advise on the right replacement strategy to protect the AWD system.

Yes. Head gasket service on EJ series engines is one of our specialties, from early stage external seepage to full replacement with resurfacing. We also inspect EJ engine Subarus for head gasket condition at every oil change, since catching it early is far easier than waiting for a full failure.
No. Under the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act, Subaru cannot void your factory warranty because you chose an independent shop, as long as the work follows manufacturer specifications using quality parts. Our ASE certified technicians follow Subaru's service specs and document all work. You have the legal right to choose your own mechanic.
A humming or growling noise that changes with vehicle speed on a Subaru is most commonly a wheel bearing, a frequent wear item on higher mileage AWD models. It could also be a tire issue or, less commonly, a differential. Bring it in and we'll diagnose it properly before recommending any work.
